SALEM, MASS. - Collectors and dealers from across the country
and Europe assembled here for the Tradewinds antique cane sale at
the historic Hawthorne Hotel on April 18.
The audience came to see a cane with an ivory handle and a shaft
of timber from Independence Hall in Philadelphia sell to a
collector on the phone for $10,640. The cane can be expected to
go to a museum eventually. A pretty circa 1685 English ivory
pique cane attracted bidders and sold for $11,200 to a local
collector.
A full report on the sale will appear in a future issue.
