: The Important Lamp and Art Glass Auction conducted at James D.
Julia this past weekend, Saturday, May 8, saw strong prices paid
for art glass and lamps.
French Cameo items from a private Philadelphia collection
attracted a great deal of interest. "It was a spectacular sale,"
commented auctioneer Jim Julia. "The lamps did great, but the
selection of French cameo glass had everyone buzzing about."
Leading the way was a large Galle marquetry vase sur verre cameo
glass vase that was decorated with crocus blossoms and foliage.
The piece started at the base in a dark green color and moved
upward into a streaked red and ending at the top in a bright
sunset yellow-orange with red, pink and blue blossoms.
Bidding on the lot was brisk with it selling at $74,750 including
premium.
Lamps included a Tiffany leaded glass arrowroot table lamp
selling at $60,375, while a Handel peacock lamp brought $31,337.
A complete review will appear in a future issue.
