: The Annual Cape Cod Decoy Auction conducted by Ted Harmon of
Decoys Unlimited, conducted this past Sunday and Monday, July
25-26, saw strong prices posted for a variety of items ranging
from decorative miniatures to working decoys.
Leading the sale was a pair of special order split-tail dowitcher
shorebirds by Elmer Crowell that were offered as separate lots.
The pair attracted quite a bit of attention with the first one
selling at $64,400, while the rig-mate brought $35,650. A record
price for a Crowell miniature preening pintail was also
established when the lot sold at $25,300.
Other top lots included a life-sized decorative carving of a
woodcock by Crowell that brought $35,650, and a Crowell working
goose decoy that went out at $34,500.
A complete review will appear in a future issue.
