York
NEW YORK CITY -- American Indian Art offered at Christie's first
auction of the 2003 season on January 13 did well with the 213

$1,160,334.
Leading the way in the sale was an early classic Navajo chief's
wearing blanket in dramatic black, blue and white stripes that
nearly tripled presale estimates selling at $317,500 to a private
collector.
A Great Lakes effigy burl bowl also did well selling between
estimates at $65,725, while a Yupic Eskimo polychrome wood dance
mask sold to a European collector for $38,240.
