Six pieces exceeded the $10,000 level with the leader being a whale ivory hand and ball on a fully carved whalebone shaft at $19,040. Captain Winslow's fine scrimshaw cane with blood money certificate fetched $15,680, as did the carved all-ivory cane presented to Queen Victoria.

An unusual gold quartz cane set in silver brought $11,200 as did Grover Cleveland's 1892 victory cane. The final piece to exceed $10,000 was a rare violin cane at $10,080.

Other high achievers were Captain Johanson's narwhal cane at $8,624 and a beautiful Faberge lapis and gold example at $8,400. An ivory Napoleonic opium pipe cane brought $7,840 while a rare ladder gadget cane fetched $7,560. Strong prices were evident throughout the sale and there were many items available for all price ranges and collecting levels.

All prices quoted include a 12 percent buyer's premium.
