Rare Sandwich vine goblet,
$16,500.
MT. CRAWFORD, VA. - Green Valley Auctions set several new sales
records for pattern glass at its annual fall auction of early
American glass, oil and fluid lamps held at their galleries on
September 29 and 30.
Terrestrial globe, $4,000.
More than 4,000 pieces of pressed glass were sold by catalog,
block and table lots in three sessions. Featured were the private
collections of Bette and Chub Wicker of Millbrook, N.Y., and Mr.
and Mrs. Dale Stock of Dillsburg, Pa; and glass de-accessioned by
the Sandwich Glass Museum, Sandwich, Mass., and the Glass Art
Center, Newton Centre, Mass. Other collections from across the
country were also represented.
A brilliant cobalt blue bellflower spoon holder brought $7,000, a
new record for any piece in that pattern. Another spoon holder, a
ribbed grape Mount Vernon example in brilliant sapphire blue,
fetched $7,750, a new record for a pattern glass spoon holder. A
new record for historical glass was also set when a terrestrial
globe in fine condition reached $4,000.
The most excitement of the day, however, occurred when a rare
Sandwich vine goblet with gilt highlights sold for $16,500,
eclipsing the previous record of $14,500 for a piece of clear
pattern glass - also sold by Green Valley.
