Hildene Antiques Show Reports Good Turnout

MANCHESTER VILLAGE, VT.

:Weather always affects the Hildene Antiques Show in July in Vermont. This year the weather remained clear of rain until the last hour of the show when sprinkles did fall for about ten minutes. Before then, clouds helped prevent the scorching sun experienced the day before.

The show, managed by Forbes and Turner Shows, opened at 8 am for early buying. Dealers are asked to not unload before then so that the early buyers can get a first chance at the merchandise. Tents, tables and showcases are placed before the opening hour.

The gate was constant the whole day and many exhibitors reported terrific sales. As with all shows, there were some who did not do as well as others.

Sales occurred right up until the last minute of the show because there was a golf tournament in town during the day and customers ran over right after their games were finished.

Portraits pictured in trade publicity the week before the show sold soon after the gates opened. Early chairs, candlestands, architectural items, linens, hooked rugs, smalls and Bennington pottery appear to be the "hot" items of the day.

In July 2007 the show will return to Dorset, Vt. The Hildene Show is conducted on the even years, Dorset on the odd years.

The next Forbes and Turner shows is the Riverside Antiques Show August 8-10, during Antiques Week in New Hampshire.
