Old store fixtures are discovered and sometimes old merchandise is found with them.
:Jenkins Shows hosted its latest edition of the Springfield Antiques Show & Flea Market June 26–28 at Clark County Fairgrounds, featuring more than 1,000 exhibiting dealers.
The dates fell outside the usual pattern; most of the year, the event is conducted the third weekend of the month. This show was the only one for both June and July, so the later date was selected. Jon Jenkins, show manager, said, "The summer has so many good shows, we decided to have just this one in the June–July period to give our dealers and customers fewer date conflicts and to emphasize this one time. It did indeed strengthen the show, with more dealers, more customers and great antiques." Attendance was higher than either June or July of past years, said Jenkins.
Found at the show were several great early pieces, including a ceramic cat in the style of Rockingham or Bennington and an early Nineteenth Century bench in walnut. An early dower chest was sold on the first day from an Ohio dealer. From a country hardware store came a cabinet.
Early decorated tile pipe was found with interesting and unusual fish decorations. There were several vintage textile dealers offering early bedcovers, coverlets and quilts. Collections of furniture included early American, English and even some later Nineteenth and Mid-Century styles.
The ceramic cat was found sitting around.
Coming up August 15 and 16 will be Jenkins' regular monthly event. The last Spectacular of the summer, September 18–20, is a three-day affair with more than 2,500 exhibiting dealers.
There is free parking with admission of $5 during the regular show times, $10 for early buying before noon Friday during the Extravaganza in September. The fairgrounds are at exit 59 on I-70. For information,
