Bidders Vie for $193,000 Yellow Diamond Pendant Won by Overseas Buyer

BOSTON, MASS. -- Skinner had its largest grossing jewelry sale ever on March 18. The sale totaled $1,739,435 with an eight percent buy-in.

The cover lot sold for $193,000, including premium. It was an Art Deco colored diamond and diamond sautoir. The detachable pendant was notable for its pear-shape faceted yellow diamond weighing approximately nine carats. The 16-inch necklace was bead-set with one marquise and 164 old mine and old European-cut diamonds weighing approximately 5.25 carats.

Bidding started at about $80,000 and quickly rose as competition was intense, both on the floor and between five or six phone bidders. It sold to an overseas phone bidder.
