: - The 600-piece candy container collection of the late Francis
Maule of Oxford, Penn., offered at Julia's on June 27-28,
attracted massive interest from collectors from across the United
States with at least one record price having been established.
The legendary Kaleidoscope candy container, which sold for mere
pennies in the 1920s and 1930s, is considered one of the rarest
and certainly most sought-after of all candy containers. The
unassuming Kaleidoscope dazzled the audience when it sold for
$22,425, far surpassing its $3/5,000 presale estimate, and
establishing a world record for the most expensive candy
container ever sold at auction.
A complete review of the Julia auction will appear in a future
issue.
