: Numerous surprises were recorded during the Skinner, Inc. auction
of European and Asian Furniture and Decorative Arts this past
Saturday, July 19, with lots estimated in the hundreds of dollars
routinely bringing several thousand dollars and more.
The top lot of the auction came as a surprise to many as a pair
of diminutive Nineteenth Century Regency two-light girandole
mirrors with eagle crests were offered. The lot, estimated at
$8/10,000, saw active bidding from several in the room, although
in the end the phones became active with the lot selling their
way for $55,225.
Other lots that did well included a pair of Eighteenth Century
garden seats in blue and white that soared past their $1/1,500
estimates bringing $17,625, a Louis XV gilt bronze and marble
three piece clock and garniture set tripling estimates at $17,625
and a KPM porcelain plaque depicting two lovers on a swing, after
a painting entitled "Springtime" by Pierre August Cot, selling at
$16,450.
A complete report will appear in a future issue.
