"The Right of Way," Phillip R. Goodwin, $34,500.
PETERBOROUGH, N.H. -- A painting entitled "Mountain Aspens, Taos" by E. Martin Hennings elicited active bidding at Cobbs Auctioneers art and antiques sale this past Saturday, October 11, followed by a strong price paid for a Phillip R. Goodwin oil sold during the sporting session on Sunday.

The Hennings, measuring 291/2 by 293/4 inches, depicted a landscape with a man and two pack animals traversing a trail surrounded by tall aspen trees. Bidding on the lot was brisk with the painting selling at $74,750.

The Goodwin oil, entitled "The Right of Way," depicted a bear and a porcupine facing each other while trying to cross a stream via a fallen log that spanned the banks. The desirable piece of illustrative art also attracted strong bids with it selling for $34,500.

A complete review of the sale will appear in a future issue.
