: - Despite the intense and challenging weather conditions New
Englanders were subjected to during the first blizzard of the
winter season, the December 7 auction for Grogan & Company
was hugely successful.
The highlight of the sale was the Eighteenth Century green jade
gilt decorated musical chime estimated at $6/8,000. The chime,
which surfaced in the Donald and Pauline MacDonald jade
collection, attracted the attention of collectors and dealers of
Asian material from all parts of the globe. With six phones
active -- including one customer from Hong Kong -- and much floor
interest, the rare piece sold to a phone bidder for a solid
$149,500.
Another piece from the same collection, a mottled pale and bright
green jade covered censer, estimated at $2,5/3,500, went off the
block for a stunning $132,250. A Saturday Evening Girls decorated
bowl estimated at $2/3,000 brought $23,000. The entire sale
netted the gallery more than $800,000.
