Normandie Armchair Fetches First Class Price in Oceanliner Memorabilia Sale

NEW YORK CITY
: The Wayne LaPoe collection of oceanliner memorabilia and art, which was offered at Christie's on June 16, was 100 percent sold by lot and by value.

The 309 lots brought $317,404, led by a mahogany open armchair from the first class dining room of the SS Normandie, circa 1934, which sold for $17,925.

Artwork by Adolphe Mouron Cassandre, "Normandie, 1935," went out at $14,340 to a US private buyer. A "Verre Eglomise" panel from "The Rape of Europa" mural for the grand lounge of the Normandie, circa 1934, realized $11,950.

Prices reported include buyer's premium.
