Spirited bidding was noted during Freeman's June 26 auction of
Fine American and European Paintings and Sculpture with the sale
achieving an impressive $3.3 million for the 200-plus lots
offered. Leading the way was a selection of works by Pennsylvania
Impressionists, several of which fetched well over $100,000.
Among the most important of these paintings was Edward Willis
Redfield's "Home by the River," which sold for $567,750 to a
private Pennsylvania collector. Other lots of interest included
Maurice Prendergast's "An Old Fashioned Garden," which fetched
$342,750, Daniel Garber's "Uplands-November" at $387,750, and
George William Sotter's "Road-Winter" selling at $174,000.
