: An extremely rare Nantucket lightship basket brought a believed
record price at auction for an individual Nantucket basket at
Rafael Osona's Americana, Continental, Fine Arts and Marine
Auction this past weekend, August 6.
The basket, a handleless open form example with possibly unique
staves encircling the top that ended in carved hearts, was a
favorite of everyone that either previewed or was at the auction.
Bidding on the lot was frenzied with a phone bidder eventually
beating out clients in the gallery as it sold for $115,000.
