Beardens Lead Swann Auction At $106,375

NEW YORK CITY
:An auction of Nineteenth and Twentieth Century Prints and Drawing at Swann Galleries saw active bidding and substantial prices realized on September 15. The sale included items from the Harry B. Henderson Collection of works by Romare Bearden, and totaled an impressive $2,629,705.

Two lots tied for the top price of the auction with both coming from the selection of Beardens. The first, a collage of various papers with ink on cardboard executed in 1965 and titled "Pittsburgh," had an extensive exhibition history and a provenance of the ex-collection of the artist. The piece had been on view at the National Gallery, the Whitney, Albright Knox and at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Estimated at $30/50,000, the collage did well selling to the trade at $106,375.

"Family," a collage with paint, ink and pencil on wood, executed in 1970, carried the same presale estimates and also had an extensive exhibition history. It too sold to the trade for $106,375.
