Bank Brings $39,600 At Crocker Farms

YORK, PENN.
: "It was really hoppin'," commented Tony Zipp in regard to Crocker Farm's auction of American stoneware and redware that took place this past Saturday, May 20. The auction, moved from the Boonsboro location where the firm conducted its sales for the past couple years, was timed to run at its new location at the York Fair Grounds and to coincide with the popular York shows managed by Jim Burke and Barry Cohen.

Two of the lots offered created quite a bit of excitement as they crossed the auction block, including the first lot of the day, a rare stoneware bank with incised and cobalt filled bird decoration on the back side and a large floral sprig on the front. The piece, estimated at $10/20,000 and attributed to Baltimore maker Henry Remmey, was also marked with the initials "EDL." Bidding on the lot was brisk with it finally selling for $39,600. The other lot to tie for the top price of the day was large four-gallon jug decorated with five chickens.

A complete review will appear in a future issue.
