Victorian Demiparure Is Tops At Weschler’s Jewelry Auction

:Weschler's Jewelry, Coins and Watches auction started the season on a high note September 16 when a silver and rock crystal demiparure arrived on the auction block.

Consigned by a local collector, the Victorian demiparure ($5/7,000) was comprised of a rock crystal necklace, a pendant, a pair of earrings and a tortoiseshell hair comb. Retailed by Tiffany & Co., Union Square, New York, the demiparure sold to a phone bidder for a surprising $75,250.

Other period pieces that performed well included an Art Deco platinum diamond bow-knot brooch, $3,760; an Art Deco platinum twin-diamond ring, $7,050; an Art Nouveau platinum diamond lavalier and chain, $1,645; and an Art Deco platinum diamond line bracelet that sold within estimate at $4,230.

Diamond standouts featured a 4.60-carat fancy deep brown-yellow pear-shaped diamond cocktail ring. Consigned from a Maryland collection, the ring fetched $25,850 against a $12/15,000 estimate. A pair of 14K yellow gold and platinum pendant diamond earrings performed above estimate at $5,405.

Other highlights included a choker-length cultured pearl, platinum and diamond necklace, $8,812; a platinum aquamarine dinner ring, $1,175; and a 18K yellow and white gold, diamond and ruby floral brooch, $2,115.

Coins achieved a 100 percent sell rate among the nearly 40 lots that were offered. A standout was a group of five US Indian head $5 gold coins that realized $3,290 against a $1/1,500 estimate.

Watch highlights included a lady's platinum and diamond 17-jewel manual-wind wristwatch by Tessco, which realized $2,585, and a lady's 18K yellow gold, white gold and diamond cocktail watch that sold online for $1,960.
