McIntire Carved Sofa Brings $167,250 At Landry Auctions

Essex, Mass.

:They came from all over to have a look at the Salem Federal mahogany sofa carved by Samuel McIntire that went on the block at Landry Auctions on June 12.

The sofa, carved with a basket of fruit and flowers on a star-punched field, with scrolled arms with waterleaf carving and rosettes, had descended in the family of the original purchaser in Salem and sold for $167,250 to Bill Samaha.
