:The "exceptionally tasteful lifetime collection of fine art, furniture, decorative works of art, books, costume jewelry and couture" belonging to Manhattan socialite D.D. Ryan set the pace for an action-packed sale at Grogan's this past weekend, March 1 and 2. Celebrating its 20th year in business, Grogan & Company posted an impressive tally of $2.5 million.
The top lot of the Ryan material came as an Alex Katz oil was offered, with "Tiger Lilies" selling at $106,375. A Picasso print went out at $57,500 and an Andy Warhol serigraph titled "Dollar Sign" and inscribed to "D.D." brought $43,125.
Ryan's couture did exceeding well, with a Halston beaded ensemble selling to a New York institution at $3,737.
Paintings ruled during Sunday's various owners portion of the auction. A large Abbott Fuller Graves painting of flowers sold at $109,250, a Maxfield Parrish landscape went out at $97,750, and an Aiden Lassell Ripley hunting scene brought $80,500.
