:A rare drop-head dragonfly Tiffany floor lamp achieved $170,500 at Blanchard's Auction Service's annual August in the Adirondacks on-site event August 8.
Thanks to a series of advertisements in Antiques and The Arts Weekly, the lamp elicited considerable presale attention, including by the winning bidder, who examined the lamp during preview the day before the auction and then bid by phone.
The winning bidder, who has a summer home in the nearby Thousand Islands, competed with seven other phone bidders for the lamp.
"There was tremendous interest in the lamp — it was definitely the star of the auction," says auctioneer Kip Blanchard.
The sale featured several collections and included another Tiffany floor lamp. This one was a curtain border example that fetched just over $83,000, selling to man in the gallery who has a summer home in the Adirondacks.
