Chair Fetches $51,750 At Nadeau’s Auction

:Nadeau's Auction saw heavy presale attention for an Eighteenth Century Chippendale chair translate into a soaring auction performance this past Saturday, October 11. Attaining $51,750, more than double its $12/20,000 estimate, was a circa 1780 Newport, R.I., Chippendale mahogany wing chair with an arched crest above shaped wings and out scrolled arms. Set on square fluted and stop fluted front legs, the chair retained an old finish and some old upholstery. Provenance listed the Jabez Huntington family of Norwich, Conn., to the present family.

The top lot of the auction was a signed Herman Herzog (1831–1932) oil on canvas titled "Florida" that had been consigned from a local estate. Spirited bidding saw the lot push past the $40/60,000 presale estimates selling at $80,500.

A complete report will appear in an upcoming issue.
