:On October 12, Columbus Day weekend, Outer Cape Auctions hosted its annual art auction. A Henry Hensche landscape dated 1986 and measuring 16 by 20 inches sold for $23,500, well above its $8/10,000 presale estimate. According to Terry Catalano, Outer Cape owner, "It's not about where we are located, or the weather or anything else, it's about the economy and who wants a piece of art."

The second Hensche oil offered was an early still life dated 1928; it sold for $8,225. Other surprises were a work by Frederic Karolyn that had an estimate of $100/200, which took off to reach a final price of $1,998.

An early oil by Karl Knaths sold for $11,750.

A Florence Bradshaw Brown painting of a balloon man handing kids balloons on the pier was estimated at $1/2,000, but some determined bidding sent it to $3,550. The Keith Haring sign did not reach the reserve at the auction, but sold afterward to private collectors.

All prices given include the buyer's premium.
