Tiffany Studios whirling leaf hanging fixture with a 22-inch dark green glass shade flecked with fall-colored leaves, sold for $28,750.
:A Tiffany Studios whirling leaf hanging fixture with a 22-inch dark green glass shade flecked with patterns of leaves in bright fall colors sold for $28,750 at Savoia's Auction on March 1. The Tiffany lamp was sold to a "collector on Long Island, who didn't even see it himself, but he knew he wanted it," said Rick Savoia, owner of the venerable auction house, after the sale.
Savoia's conducts regular sales often brightened by Tiffany, Handel, Quezal, Rookwood and other art glass. Savoia said, "I always try to have plenty of art glass, especially Tiffany, but it's becoming harder and harder to find."
Tiffany Studios leaded stained glass mushroom shade, 16 inches in diameter, on an urn base, went to $16,100.
The March 1 sale had several other highlights when good, fresh items filled the gallery with bidders. Savoia's also had busy phones and many absentee bids on many lots.
On offer were furniture, prints, ephemera and, as Savoia said, "as usual, the better stuff was selling well. Our gallery was filled with what we have come to call an 'average crowd,' meaning a full audience."
Other highlights of the day included a Tiffany Studios leaded stained glass mushroom shade, 16 inches in diameter, on an urn base, that sold for $16,100; a small Louis Comfort Tiffany Favrile glass damascene shade, just 7 inches in diameter, went to $5,175; a Tiffany Studios bamboo form bronze base, #1205, with Tiffany green glass shade, 14¾ inches high, realized $3,680; and a lamp base, Tiffany Studios #322, was sold alone, without a shade — it brought $2,070.
A couple of vases also did well: a Tiffany trumpet pulled feather vase on bronze base, 15 inches high, sold for $2,415, a silver overlaid art glass vase signed Quezal, signed and numbered, went to $1,725; and a Tiffany Studios grapevine frame with blue glass sold for $2,300.
LCT Favrile glass damascene shade, 7 inches, sold for $5,175.
All prices given include the buyer's premium.
Savoia's next auction will be in April and already there are special, fresh-to-the-market Tiffany, Handel, Quezal and more arriving every day. Savoia's is at 117 R Mclaren Road Extension. For more information,
