Time & Again Attracts Overflow Crowds & Serious Bidders

:On February 22 and 24, Jeff Zimmerman presented a two-day, winter antiques auction that featured more than 1,000 lots of antiques, fine art and decorative accessories at his Time & Again Auction Gallery. Including estates from Miami Beach, Fla., the contents of a Sutton Place (New York City) antiques shop and a Brooklyn, N.Y., antiques shop, as well as selected properties from the DiSalvo collection, the auction attracted overflow crowds, serious bidders and grossed more than $354,000.

There were more than 400 registered bidders as the Sunday sale began at 3 pm, and the bidding was fast and competitive. Top lots ranged across the categories from furniture, sterling flatware and clocks, to fine art, jewelry and decorative arts.

A French, seven-piece giltwood parlor suite, circa 1860, brought $8,555; Reed & Barton sterling silver flatware in the Renaissance pattern, realized $3,068; a Russian silver and crystal punch bowl brought $7,080; and a Nineteenth Century ornate German 800 silver, five-piece tea set brought $2,478.

A magnificent bronze champleve pedestal clock was taken home for $8,260. Another clock also stuck a chord with bidders — an Ansonia porcelain crystal regulator clock brought $2,124.

In fine arts, an oil on canvas by William Howe sold for $5,015; an oil on board signed Charles Chapman hammered at $4,130; another oil on panel, a Madonna attributed to Friedrich Von Schadow, realized $3,304; and an Orientalist painting signed Said Omer was hotly contested to $2,950.

Sevres was a top seller during the two days, with the top lot being a Nineteenth Century marble top pedestal with Sevres plaques that went to $4,720. Other highlights included a handpainted Sevres vase with onyx base at $1,534 and a Nineteenth Century bronze mounted Sevres urn that sold for $3,186.

In jewelry and decorative accessories, a diamond and sapphire platinum bracelet hammered at $2,950, as did a Russian silver and marble box with rubies and diamonds. Handpainted and signed, a Royal Vienna portrait vase went to $1,652.

All prices reported include the 18 percent buyer's premium.
