NEW YORK CITY - Flavia Ormond Fine Arts Limited of London, will
hold its tenth winter exhibition of "Master Drawings" at Adelson
Galleries, from January 20 through February 7.
in pen and brown ink and brown wash heightened with white by
Jacopo Ligozzi, from his early Florentine period, circa 1580.
Ligozzi worked for the grand dukes of Tuscany.
Another important work in the show is a pen and wash drawing,
"Balletto a Cavallo" or "Ceremonial Ride," by the Florentine
artist Stefano della Bella (1610-1664). Forty knights on
horseback, in costume and wearing immense crests on their
helmets, ride in elegant formation to entertain the Este court at
Modena and its guests. This is one of only four known drawings
for this commission.
Among the Eighteenth Century works is a red chalk drawing on blue
paper by Giambattista Tiepolo, "Study for Two Hands on a Book,"
"Holding a Quill Pen," and a Nineteenth Century drawing of "The
Roman Triumph of Paulus Emilius" by the Neo-classical artist
Felice Giani.
Among the French drawings is a lively tavern scene, "The Game of
Morra," executed with a brush and grey and brown ink on cream
paper, circa 1756, by Jean-Baptiste Greuze, and in the Nineteenth
Century group there is an early and very naturalistic Theodore
Gericault, "A Groom with Two Horses," circa 1814-1815.
Another picture by Gericault, "The Bull Market," done in
watercolor over pencil (an unusual medium for this artist) is
fresh on the international art market. Drawings by George Romney,
Adloph von Menzel and John Singer Sargent complete the show.
