The Coming of Goings at Bernaducci.Meisel.Gallery

River Valley Still Life Ralph Goings 1976 Oil on linen
"River Valley Still Life," Ralph Goings, 1976. Oil on linen.

NEW YORK CITY - Frank Bernarducci and Louis K. Meisel will host a solo exhibition of recent and vintage works by Ralph Goings from March 6 to 28.

Goings is one of the pioneers of the Photorealist Movement. Beginning his career in the late 1960s, he caught the world's attention with his delicate renderings of anonymous places, such as fast food restaurants and supermarket parking lots.

The exhibition will be a combined showing of classic paintings from the 1970s as well as his more recent work. The focus will be on his watercolor still lifes. In this series, Goings puts the viewer in the actual place of his diner characters, showing viewers what they see directly while sitting at the counter. Through his technical skill Goings is also able to bring to life the simple beauty of such objects. The slight reflection of sunlight off a napkin holder or the geometrical composition of a wedge of lemon meringue pie and a cup of coffee take on greater significance through his painterly gaze.

Bernarducci Meisel Gallery is at 37 West 57th Street. For information, 212-593-3757 or www.newrealism.com. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 am to 5:30 pm.
