With very deep sadness, we mourn the death of our dear, wonderful friend, Susan Lauren. Susan passed away on October 20, 2008, at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Susan is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Jerry Lauren, executive vice president of men's design, PoloRalph Lauren, their three children, Brad, Greg and Jenny Lauren, her daughter-in-law Amy Lauren, daughter-in-law Elizabeth Berkley Lauren and grandson Benjamin Alexander.

Susan loved the art and history of fashion, which led her to the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City where she served as a docent for many years. She was also dedicated to the American Folk Art Museum in Manhattan where she served on many committees. On October 17, 2008, the American Folk Art Museum Benefit at the Plaza Hotel saluted both Susan and Jerry as passionate collectors and benefactors, "consistently setting the standard for refined taste and artistic excellence transforming their love of American art to a world-renowned collection."

Susan had many interests. She loved the ballet, art, fashion, travel, good food, theater and interesting books. Susan was also a true New Yorker and enjoyed every aspect of the city. But, most of all she loved people and people loved her. Her warmth and kindness touched many hearts, and her devotion to her family and friends was evident to everyone.

Susan enjoyed attending antiques shows and auctions and loved talking to collectors and dealers. Susan felt that collecting was an exciting adventure, always looking for that ultimate treasure. She only bought what she truly loved and enjoyed surrounding herself with "beautiful history."

Susan was the most gracious hostess, and one of Susan's greatest gifts was her ability to make people feel at ease and comfortable. There are so many dealers and collectors who will remember Susan and Jerry's small gatherings during the summers at their beautiful country home. They were fun afternoons, filled with great food, wine and stimulating conversation. In the city, Susan and Jerry entertained collectors and dealers as well. Susan was always eager to open her home, to share her knowledge and always interested in hearing what her guests had to say.

Susan loved life and loved to share her life with all who knew her. Susan touched the hearts and lives of so many people and her death has stunned and saddened so many of us. We will miss her warm smile and beautiful spirit, her great style, elegance and graciousness. We will always cherish our happy memories, and Susan will be a part of our lives forever.
