David Stagg
:Bloomsbury Auctions announced that on Saturday, January 17, one of its founders, David Stagg, died after a battle with cancer at London Bridge Hospital.
Stagg was one of the three founding members of the company in 1983, and was a major driving force behind the start-up, growth and more recent flourishing of Bloomsbury, said Managing Director Rupert Powell. The firm, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in style last year, is a leader in the books and manuscripts auction business.
"His influence on all members of the Bloomsbury team and on many others in the book world past and present has been immense; he was truly devoted to Bloomsbury and worked extremely hard," Powell said in a statement that was posted on the company's website this week. "He was full of energy, he got things done, was a brilliant auctioneer, and of course was the most charming business-getter with a great sense of humor and the best laugh you could hope to hear."
Stagg was born on May 22, 1947, and is survived by his wife, Jane, and their children. Information on funeral arrangements was not available at press time.
