:Martin J. Keane, a respected fishing antiques expert, collector and dealer, died peacefully at his home on January 30.
The son of Katherine Bleckel-Keane and Martin Keane, he was born in Danbury, Conn., on March 6, 1937, and he attended and graduated from Danbury High School. He was a realtor in New Milford, Conn., for many years.
Mr Keane was recognized as a leading authority on fishing rods and tackle. His book,
Classic Rods & Rod Makers,
was first published in 1976. This book initiated a new appreciation for the craft of rod making. He was one of the most respected collectors and authorities on fly fishing equipment in the world.
He leaves his wife, Lillian; his sister, Shirley, and her husband, Leonard DePalma; his daughters, Kathleen Lemerise and Wendy Varga; Lillian's children, Amy Golemme and Jeffrey Kilberg, and grandchildren, Alexandra, Sophia, Rachel, Sonia, Alyssa, Zak, Quinn and James.
