Jane Cieply, 73, Folk Art & Antiques Dealer

Barrington, Ill.
:Jane Cieply, 73, of Lake Barrington, known for more than 35 years in the antiques and folk art world for her business Hypoint American Antiques and Folk Art, died March 17 at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington.

Born September 4, 1935, in Bloomington, Ill., Jane was an active member of the Chicago Suburban Antiques Dealers Association, and she made many dealer and customer friends over those many years.

After closing her shop in Northbrook, Ill., she spent most of her recent years traveling the country with Richard, her husband of 51 years, doing antiques and folk art shows. Jane had the uncanny ability of viewing a box of discarded items and seeing art somewhere in that clutter. American folk art was her love. Whether it was a simple Amish quilt or an intuitively created piece of art, Jane had the eye. For the last few years, Jane and Dick spent their winters in Arizona enjoying the wonders of the Southwest and exploring new avenues of American folk art.

In addition to her husband, survivors include two children, Jennifer (Scott) Dwiel and Jeff (Susan) Cieply; and grandchildren Zach, Noah and Lucas Dwiel, and Maryclaire and Kara Cieply.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lyle and Edith Stitt of El Paso, Ill.; and brother, Jack Stitt, also of El Paso.

A celebration of Jane's life will be scheduled at a later date. Cremation has been accorded.

In lieu of flowers, Jane requested that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society at 800-ACS-2345 or www.cancer.org .
