:New York State Police are investigating the theft of a two-piece, cast iron Victorian birdbath that was reported to have been taken from the lawn of a residence here sometime between December 27 and January 3.
Valued at more than $500, the birdbath comprises a hexagonal cast iron fountain with embossed decorative detail married to a bottom piece consisting of a tall cast iron fluted pedestal base.
Identifying characteristics provided by the owner are a precarious fit between the top and bottom pieces and a badly repaired fountain bowl bottom — a flat stone was cemented in the hole. The birdbath has a rusted patina through white-blue in the bowl.
