Hundreds Of Antiques Reported Stolen From Kingston, N.Y., Residence

Kingston, N.Y.
:New York State police are investigating a residential break-in and robbery in which hundred of antiques were stolen, according to the owner, Nansi Nelson. The thefts occurred around mid-November, and because many of the items had been acquired through the years at antiques shows and auctions by Nansi and her late husband, stage and screen actor Barry Nelson, some have been recovered when they were recognized by auctioneers and dealers. Nelson is hoping that many more of these items will be recovered as collectors, dealers and auctioneers recognize their provenance.

Stolen was a massive apothecary jar collection, with items dating from the 1400s to the present and including delft, Paris porcelain, majolica, faience, glass and show globes. Another category is Seventeenth English, American and Continental furniture, all walnut, comprising chairs and cupboards. Medieval paintings and contemporary Haitian paintings from the 1950s to present were also taken, as were many Nineteenth Century English advertising trade signs, mirrors and store displays.

Perhaps most distressing to the owner was the theft of her late husband's personal effects, including clothing, costumes, scripts, photographs and videos.

Anyone having any information about any of these items is asked to contact Detective Auriemma of the New York State Police at 845-338-1702.
