:The Pawtucket Police Department is investigating a shoplifting felony complaint involving a painting that was fraudulently purchased on March 5 at an antiques mall. The painting by William Lester Stevens, valued at approximately $3,000, was purchased for $135 after a customer replaced the pricing label with one that had been placed on another item in the store. The suspect, a white male between 30 and 40 years old and between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 8 inches tall, was seen making the switch on an in-store security videotape reviewed by the store owner after the suspect had left the store.

The oil on board landscape of woodlands and a stream measures 8 by 10 inches and is signed William Lester Stevens on the back in pencil. The painting was in a gold frame when it left the store.

Anyone having information about this item is asked to contact Detective Scott Feeley of the Pawtucket Police Department at 401-727-9100, referencing incident number 08-1441-OF.
