: Steve Jenkins of Jenkins Management has announced that he and his
family have just concluded the $2.25 million purchase of the
Farmington Polo Grounds, site of their Farmington Antiques
Weekend twice each summer. The purchase had been rumored for more
than a year, and, in fact, Jenkins said "the negotiations were
protracted, over two year's worth," but on May 6 he and his sons
concluded the agreement to complete the real estate settlement.
Jon Jenkins, the older son of Steve and Barbara Jenkins, said the
family is "excited to have secured the long-term future of
Farmington Antiques Weekend Shows by now owning the ground." When
they purchased the shows from the McInnis family four years ago,
they only had tenuous lease rights to the property and could have
lost the site of this 400- to 500-dealer event. Jon Jenkins added
that they will be looking at improvements to the site to better
serve the visiting public and dealers for this large antiques
festival. He hopes to add permanent facilities to the 59-acre
horse farm, which may include covered structures and rest rooms.
The equestrian activities will continue. The polo grounds and
surrounding land have been an equestrian training site for
several of the schools in the area, including Miss Porter's
School.
The next Farmington antiques show is June 12-13, and there is
another show on Labor Day weekend, September 4-5. Conducted for
more than 20 years, the show attracts dealers from all over the
world, with an emphasis on early American style, country and
Americana.
