:Louis O. St Aubin, Jr, died Tuesday morning, July 11, at the home
he shared with his life partner, William Pitt. St Aubin was the
owner of Brookside Antiques on Water Street for more than 40
years and was an expert on Mt Washington Art Glass.
He wrote the first book on Pairpoint Lamps - Pairpoint Lamps:
A Collectors Guide - as well as editing two other books on
Pairpoint and Mt Washington Glass. He was a founder of the former
New Bedford Glass Museum, the New Bedford Glass Society and the
Society of New Bedford Glass and Fine Arts. He also was a founder
and past president of the Mt Washington Art Glass Society, as
well as a past president of the Southeastern New England Antique
Dealers Association.
St Aubin was a founding member and current president of the New
Bedford Preservation Society, and was a goodwill ambassador for
the City of New Bedford. He had a love and passion for the city,
its history, its architecture and its contribution to the
worldwide glass industry.
As an art glass expert, he was an advising curator for the New
Bedford Whaling Museum on two exhibits, "Masterpieces of Mt
Washington Art Glass" and "Smith Brothers: Glassware." He also
served the New Bedford Whaling Museum as a member of the
collection committee.
In addition to his life partner, he is survived by his mother
Barbara St Aubin, and his sister Susan Wilson St Aubin of Reno,
Nev., and aunts, uncles and cousins.
St Aubin's wake was held at his home and his funeral at the Grace
Episcopal Church of New Bedford.
