:Winterthur will present an exhibition, "Fashion in Film: Period Costumes for the Screen," on view September 30–January 7.

Created for film adaptations of classic novels — and elegantly worn by the likes of Elizabeth Taylor, Nicole Kidman, Julie Christie, Gwyneth Paltrow, Meryl Streep, Alan Rickman, Ralph Fiennes and Madonna — the 35 period costumes in this exhibition reflect a quest for authenticity in both cut and materials.

The exhibit includes designs from Elizabeth, Dangerous Liaisons, Sense and Sensibility, A Room with a View, Gosford Park, Indiana Jones and Evita by designers who have won or been nominated for Academy Awards.
