:Promoters Barry Cohen and Jim Burk have announced the cancellation of their upcoming show Antiques Philadelphia: Spring Show at East Falls, originally scheduled to take place April 11–13.
Formerly named Antiques at Philadelphia's Navy Pier and taking place at the cruise terminal at the Naval Business Center, the show opened in 2006. For two years, the pair of promoters ran what quickly became a popular event during the annual Americana Week in Philadelphia.
All of that changed last April, however, when the Philadelphia Antiques Show announced that it was moving from its current location at the downtown 33rd Street Armory, due to construction that was scheduled at the facility, to the cruise terminal at Philadelphia's Navy Yard in 2008.
Cohen and Burk said the maneuver put an end to their event "by financially undercutting Cohen's relationship with the management of his venue."
Despite securing a new location and attracting the Pennsylvania Ballet as charity beneficiary, there has not been enough support for the event to go on as scheduled.
"Our dealers had every right to participate in Philadelphia's Antique Week," said Cohen. "But despite the dealer community's anger at the Philadelphia Antique Show's tactics, not enough of them were willing to risk the move to an untried facility," Cohen continued.
Jim Burk Antique Shows and b4rTIME, Inc said they wish to thank their loyal exhibitors, collectors and the antiques-loving public for their support in Philadelphia during the past two years. For information, 703-914-1268 or
