Barn Star Announces A New Show For Hartford

Hartford, Conn.
:The rumor mill had barely stopped spinning in regard to the recent announcement concerning the cancellation of the Fall Hartford Antiques Show when it was set into motion once again as show manager Frank Gaglio declared his intentions to promote a new show in Hartford.

The Autumn Hartford Antiques Show has been booked into the 2009 schedule at the Connecticut Expo Center and will debut September 19–20, according to Gaglio of Rhinebeck, N.Y.'s Barn Star Productions. "I have been looking for an opportunity to bring to New England another Barn Star event," said Gaglio, "and when the Expo Center became available, Hartford became that event."

Barn Star and Gaglio have expressed a commitment to "endeavor to restore the excitement and fine quality antiques show for which Hartford has been known."

The roots for the Fall Hartford Antiques Show extend back to 1963 when it was originally managed by Russell Carrell. A benefit for the Antiquarian and Landmarks Society, the show was later managed by Francis Phipps and Betty Forbes, and then by Linda Turner of Forbes and Turner.

Turner explained that cancellation of the Fall Hartford Antiques Show, originally scheduled for this weekend, September 20 and 21, in an email response sent Monday, August 11, citing "unforeseen circumstances" as the reason for the show's demise.

Regarded as one of the premier American antiques shows in the country, its long list of distinguished dealers included Zeke Liverant of Nathan Liverant and Son, Lillian Cogan, John Walton, Florene Maine, Avis and Rocky Gardner, Louis Spring, Timothy Trace, Kenneth Hammitt, John Carl Thomas, Paul Cooley, Malcolm Stearns and Paul and Margaret Weld, among others.

In announcing the Autumn Hartford Antiques Show, Gaglio stated that it will "present everyone's favorite dealers in room-setting booths, focusing on traditional Americana, plus selected dealers in other categories, including art, jewelry, garden, pottery, textiles, maps and prints, folk art and Oriental carpets.

"There will also be a taste of Midcentury Modern and English antiques, bringing the show full circle in period, style and taste. Our goal is to create a show everyone will shop and enjoy," he said.

"We are thrilled at the number of longtime and high-end dealers who have already heard about this new show and have requested a contract," said Gaglio. With a whole year to build the show, the promoter is planning an extensive ad campaign to get the word out.

The Expo Center is a popular location among showgoers and dealers, recognized for its ample free parking, easy loading and access from major highways.
