Betty Ring’s Samplers Sell At Sotheby’s “I can open this lot at $50,000,” the auctioneer at Sotheby’s said, as lot number 616 of the landmark sampler collection of Betty Ring continued on Sunday, January 22, at the York Avenue galleries. The sampler in question, 115 lots into the sale, was the first of the New Jersey lots and was executed in 1807 by Mary Antrim, Burlington County. Add to My Archive

Near the Rothko Chapel on the 30-acre Menil Collection campus in Houston is another chapel. Its design is contemporary, foretelling nothing of the contents for which it was built. Within are two fine Byzantine frescoes dating to the Thirteenth Century.

Jan 31st, 12- Revolutionary War Flintlock Rifle Stolen In Northampton, Mass. Add to My Archive A brass-mounted and engraved flintlock Revolutionary rifle was reported to have been taken from private residence here in early January. The rifle measures 56 inches in length with a brass patch box engraved “Clement Fairchild, 4th Connecticut Rgmt, 1780.”
