: The Cahoon Museum of American Art will present "Rhythms of Land
and Sea: New Paintings by Anne Boucher" June 15-July 24. This
exhibition/sale will feature about 25 acrylics and watercolors,
each aglow with the crystalline light that is Cotuit artist
Boucher's trademark.
An opening reception will take place from 5 to 7 pm Friday, June
18. In conjunction with the show, Boucher will give gallery talks
at 11 am on June 22 and July 13.
Boucher has never followed the beaten path. Growing up in
Detroit, she was the child who ran away from home her senior year
and who did not go to college. In 1974, she visited Cape Cod for
the first time and impulsively returned only a week later to live
there. Disliking instruction, she taught her self to paint simply
by painting and looking at other artists' work.
Many of the paintings in the exhibition are of Truro. Although
she is no longer with the group, Boucher was the founder of "21
in Truro."
Several paintings of swans - one of her favorite subjects - will
also be in the show. The show will also feature scenes of
Ballston Beach in Truro, fishing boats in Provincetown and the
children's Mosquito Fleet in Cotuit.
The Cahoon Museum is at 4676 Falmouth Road (Route 28). For
