Contemporary Iroquois Art in Wood and Stone

: ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Arctic Artistry will hold an opening reception for "Contemporary Iroquois Art," Saturday, December 11, from noon to 5 pm, at 2 Spring Street.

The exhibition will feature 15 stone and wood carvings depicting the culture of the Ononda Tribe belonging to the Iroquois Nation.

"False Face" masks done in wood and stone and stone carvings expressing the agricultural basis of the people, including the sisters of corn, squash and beans, will also be shown. Their myths tell of the skydancer who delivers the seeds to the sisters as well as the keeper of the fire story. These people live near the United States and Canadian border around Niagara Falls.

Artists whose works are included are Vince Bomberry, Cyril Henry, Dale Isaacs and Roy Henry.
