NEW YORK CITY - The Fischbach Gallery presents recent landscape
paintings by Timothy Arzt, October 5 to 28. This is the artist's
first solo show at the gallery.
Arzt's minutely detailed landscape paintings recall the Northern
European tradition, juxtaposing a heightened sense of realism and
romantic sense of foreboding. The artist concentrates on scenes
from nature, such as ponds and woodlands, in his small-scale
paintings.
Keeping the figural element to a bare minimum, there is a feeling
of "something other" in Arzt's paintings: the northern
Renaissance landscape painters chose their subject matter with a
belief in its transcendental nature.
The Fischbach Gallery is at 24 West 57th Street. Hours are
