: Fifty Years - and Getting Better All the Time
- If you want to see a bunch of happy people, go to the Seventh
Regiment Armory, Park Avenue at 67th Street, and visit the Winter
Antiques Show. There is still time, for the show runs through
Sunday, January 25.
Thomas Colville Fine Art, New Haven, Conn.
Possibly the first smiling face you will see will be
Catherine Sweeney Singer, the show's executive director for the
past ten years, who is beaming over the large crowds the show is
attracting and "the wonderful objects our dealers have brought to
the show this year."
The year 2004 marks the 50th anniversary of the show and it
appears the exhibitors have gone all-out in both items for sale
and their presentation. Comments from the dealers include, "Best
show ever," "We have been selling nonstop since the preview on
Thursday," and "There is really nothing like this show."
To mark this special year for the Winter Show, The Metropolitan
Museum of Art is presenting the loan exhibition, "A Celebration
of The American Wing," showing some of the greatest treasures in
the world of antiques. This stunning exhibition is at the front
of the show and a perfect gate-way to the booths behind it.
This week's Antiques and The Arts Weekly brings to its
readers a short look at the show. A lengthy one will be ready for
publication shortly.
