The Southport-Westport Antiques Show Goes into 'Hibernation'

WESTPORT, CONN.
: The Southport-Westport Antiques Show, last conducted June 17, 2004, at Greens Farm Academy by the Near & Far Aid Association, Inc, and the Antiques Council, has been cancelled - for now.

According to new Antiques Council president Charles Probst of Charles Edwin, Inc, Louisa, Va., the event is actually in "hibernation" until a new venue can be found.

"Last year the show had to move from its old venue, the Fairfield County Hunt Club, due to a hike in rent," Mr Probst commented, "[which] was not a great thing for it. Then the [school's required] date change really hurt it.

"It's the responsibility of the council to find a new venue," he continued. "Southport-Westport is not dead. They're not looking for another manager. Near & Far Aid has been a dream sponsor. That's the truth - they've bent over backwards for us."

"It's too valuable to give up," concluded Mr Probst. "It's one of the best shows north of New York City."
