ALEXANDRIA, VA., and WASHINGTON BORO, PENN. - After more than a
decade of constructive coexistence in the York, Penn., market,
promoters Barry M. Cohen and Jim Burk have announced their first
joint effort. During setup at Burk's popular Greater York
Antiques Show & Sale last week, word spread quickly that the
two promoters were about to announce a brand new event in
Philadelphia, now that Cohen has closed his Center City Antiques
Show after seven years. It will be named Antiques at
Philadelphia's Navy Pier.
"I have always been interested in returning to Philadelphia to
promote a show, but the circumstances had to be right," said
Burk. "Being able to join forces with Barry, who brokered a deal
with the new management of the Cruise Terminal at the Navy Pier,
and who will manage the show, makes this a terrific opportunity."
Burk, who will handle the recruitment and walls for the event,
has already signed up a number of distinguished dealers who have
worked with him, Cohen - or both - over the years. They include:
Raccoon Creek Antiques at Oley Forge, Newsom & Berdan,
Malcolm Magruder, Pam & Martha Boynton, Carlson &
Stevenson, Stephen-Douglas, Betsey Telford's Rocky Mountain
Quilts, Jewett & Berdan, and Vander Laan & Schill, Russ
and Karen Goldberger, Barry and Lisa McAllister, David Good and
Sam Forsythe, and Bob Bergen.
Cohen commented, "The Navy Pier has been an elegant and effective
setting for antique shows in the past, and even the largest
events at the brand new stadium do not impact traffic or access
to the Navy Yard on South Broad Street. We're arranging for free
parking for customers, professional catering at the cafe, as well
as an Antiques Week shuttle that will run to the Philadelphia
Antiques Show."
Antiques at Philadelphia's Navy Pier will debut on Friday
morning, April 7, and run through Sunday afternoon, April 9. The
show will feature approximately 65 dealers of quality American
and English period and country furniture, furnishings, early folk
art, and appropriate decorative accessories.
