| Figural tape measures, which fall under the same heading as antique sewing collectibles, were made from the 1820s through the 1950s, and were then generally referred to as "novelty" tape measures. The authors, tape measure collectors themselves, have written an interesting, well-organized and concise overview of their subject (possibly the only one which focuses soley on tape measures). Most chapters provide an introduction. Approximately 500 color photographs present 700 figural shapes. An efficient value index (accompanying each piece) is explained early and avoids a great deal of flipping back and forth.
