| "What is there to collect in flashlights?" asks the author in his introduction. "Name brands, early lights, new lights, unusual lights, lanterns, military lights, comic character or personality lights, gun-shaped lights, penlights..." They are all featured here, in perhaps the only extensive look at the history and collectibility of flashlights. Four hundred and fifty-eight examples are organized under company histories, such as Eveready (which, as the oldest manufacturer, is featured over 50 pages), Allbright, Anglo American, Ash Flash, Aurora, Bantam Lite, Barney and Berry, Beacon Electric Works, Bond, Bright Star, Burgess, Chase, Dynamo/Collins or Campbell, etc. Information for collectors, such as dating and valuing flashlights; condition, availability and investment factors; and battery problems, is included. All photographs are in color, and an approximate value is given in each caption. |
