Appreciating and Using Haviland China |
By Nora Travis |
| published by Schiffer Books, over 400 color photographs, 192 pages, values guide, $39.95 hardcover. |
|
| In this beautiful book, the beauty of Haviland china is illustrated in hundreds of color photographs. It displays china used from breakfast through dinner and beyond, just as it graced the dining table in the Victoria "Age of Elegance." There is even a description of proper usage for a 15-course dinner, should you decide to serve one sometime soon.
A brief history of the Haviland family and its contribution to the American way of life is included, along with the history of Haviland production and its decoration.
Many of the Haviland patterns have been catalogued using the well-established Schleiger numbers, enabling readers to identify unnamed patterns with certainty. Valuable descriptions are also provided concerning the use of various Haviland table wares. A listing of back stamps and a price guide are also included.
The author has done extensive research and has lectured on Victorian dining with Haviland china to many groups and clubs in southern California, and with the publication of this Schiffer book Ms Travis brings her extensive knowledge to a grateful readership.
